The five major body shapes are categorized as RECTANGLE, INVERTED TRIANGLE, APPLE, HOURGLASS, AND PEAR.

The Rectangle is also known as the Athletic build. Women with this body type have similar measurements in the bust, hips, and shoulders. This body type can make shorter women appear heavier than they are, which can be frustrating when shopping for flattering clothes. The goal is to choose clothing that creates the appearance of an hourglass and combats the box shape.
To determine if this is your body shape:
- Your hips, waistline, and shoulders have about the same widths.
- Rectangles accumulate weight evenly but may accumulate some more through the upper body or neck.
- You have relatively straight shoulders.
- You may have a flat butt.
- You have an athletic build and an undersized bust area.

An inverted triangle body shape is expressed as a body shape with bigger proportions on the top than on the bottom. It also appears to be an athletic build as the legs and waist are quite smaller than the bust and shoulders’ width. You can measure the entirety of your hips, bust, and shoulders to know if you have an inverted triangle body shape.

To know whether you have an hourglass body shape, examine your body with a full-size mirror and check if your curves appear more like a Coke bottle figure.
You can also try to measure your bust, hips, and shoulders.
